Genomic identification of STEC using a qPCR-based assay.

STEC is a type of E. coli bacteria that produces a toxic substance known as Shiga toxin. Shiga toxin is most wildly implicated in reported E. coli disease outbreaks of which the E. coli strain O157 is a common  causal agent. STEC is a member of the Enterobacteriaceae family.
